A student representative will represent each of the FSPA districts. Nine students serve on the Executive Board. There is one from each of the seven districts in addition to the Student Chairs that are selected annually at the state convention. The student representatives are elected annually at the Fall workshops around the state and serve through the following year’s workshop.
This is an excellent opportunity to gain leadership experience. If you are a current Junior please consider running for District 2 Student Representative and contributing your talents and creativity to FSPA.

REQUIRED DUTIES
- Theme planning
- Designing the logo for T-shirts
- Planning and carrying out banquet decorations
- Securing “freebies” from vendors
- Planning student executive board, etc.
- Assisting with the Spring convention activities and events.
- Work with district directors and students from UF to supervise the registration desk, greet speakers, and prepare awards.
- Coordinate student activities such as dances and other events.
ELIGIBILITY
- Student MUST BE A JUNIOR during the 2018-19 school year.
- Student must have at least a 2.75 cumulative grade point average as evidenced by transcripts from school guidance department.
- The student’s publication/broadcast program MUST be a member of FSPA.
- The student and his/her adviser MUST ATTEND the district workshop.
- The student must attend the Winter Executive Board meeting at the Wyndham Orlando Resort in December.
- The student and his/her adviser must attend the State convention in Orlando on April 11-13, 2019 at International Drive Wyndham. The elected student will room with his/her staff members under the guidance and direction of his/her adviser.
- Student must make travel arrangements to attend these events.
HOW TO APPLY:

- One letter of recommendation - These can be from teachers, administrators, coaches, etc.
- Transcripts or other documentation with proof of required GPA

EXPECTATIONS:
- Student must have time to take on FSPA responsibilities and activities, work independently and work well with adult supervision.
- Student must be computer literate and creative and must be able to use phone skills.
- Student must agree to all of the rules/regulations in the FSPA BYLAWS.
RESPONSIBILITIES OF REPRESENTATIVE’S ADVISER
- Adviser must attend the district workshop.
- Adviser must assist the student rep, with the district director, to plan state workshops and fill out the appropriate “excused absence forms.”
- Adviser must attend the 2019 STATE convention in Orlando and stay at the International Drive Wyndham to chaperone their students and the student rep.
VOTING
- Votes for this position are based on a publication vote. Each publication has one vote. This is not a general population vote.
- Advisers will meet with their staff members, ascertain their choice for student representative and then submit their ballot prior to lunch.
ELECTION RESULTS
- Nominees must be present at the Closing Session.
- The winner of the election will be announced at this time and the necessary paperwork will be completed for the state.
- If a problem develops and the winner cannot serve as the District 2 representative, the runner-up will be notified and will serve as outlined above.
